This September 2020 report from the MaRS Discovery District was prepared with support from Natural Resources Canada. The research used stakeholder interviews and secondary research to highlight key challenges and barriers facing the smart grid sector. The authors describe changes that will be needed in the areas of policy and regulation; business models and market structure, energy sector culture/customer awareness; and technology and digitization. The report is intended for market players and policy makers focused on energy efficiency and smart grid development.
