This November 2020 report by researchers from Ohio State University was sponsored by Americans for a Clean Energy Grid as part of the Macro Grid Initiative. Their analysis identifies the value of developing inter-regional transmission and macro grids in the U.S. An extensive global comparison is presented, along with a cost-benefits analysis, engineering design options/requirements and a discussion of three characteristics said to be essential for successful implementation. The authors lay out a 21st-century vision of macro grids with various possible scenarios.
