This report from the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy came out in April 2021. The report describes the opportunity for electrical demand-side resources to address potential winter peaks and constraints, and provides examples of remedial strategies for utilities and market participants. The key strategies include: using existing programs that target winter peak demand reductions through energy efficiency and demand response; applying demand-side measures that reduce heating load; residential weatherization measures; applying intelligent operation of heating equipment through residential smart devices; and energy storage and managed electric vehicle charging.
